"Orbital ATK is proud to support the NRO and ULA with key technologies that enable the launch of critical national defense satellites", said Charlie Precourt, Vice President and General Manager of Orbital ATK's Propulsion Systems Division.

While details about the payload are classified, groups of amateur satellite trackers can use clues to narrow down the nature of the satellite, including its likely orbit and technology.

The United Launch Alliance successfully launched one of its Delta 4 rocket into space on January 12 from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

High winds forced United Launch Alliance to scrub its launch plans for Wednesday afternoon.

The latest spy satellite mission was ULA's fits flight of 2018, and also it was the 27th successful mission of ULA for the NRO. As usual, no one knows what the NROL-47 satellite is all about and what its mission is.

The office is in charge of designing, building, launching and maintaining US intelligence satellites. The common booster core was powered by an RS-68A liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen engine.

With more than a century of combined heritage, United Launch Alliance is the nation's most experienced and reliable launch service provider.

The launch is carrying a classified spy satellite called NROL-47. But this time, it has used the two-stage, 217-foot-tall (66 m) Delta IV rocket.

The launch was then delayed by about an hour due to a ground system helium issue.

"We are ready and eager to take on this Delta launch", Col. Greg Wood, launch commander and vice commander of the Air Force's 30th Space Wing, said in a statement earlier this week. "Aerojet Rocketdyne employees across the country work hard to ensure 100 percent mission success, and our role in yet another launch for the National Reconnaissance Office demonstrates the trust and confidence in our propulsion".
