  • National Weather Service: Coldest air mass of the season to arrive this weekend; snow Thursday

Wind chills today are expected to be dangerously cold through the rest of the day and again overnight into Tuesday morning. A high temperature of -6° was the coldest daytime high since January of 1997.

Another brutal shot of cold air settles in after our quick hitting snow, Wednesday. Factor in wind chills, feel-like temperatures will be well below zero tonight.

A low pressure system moves by offshore and gives us a chance for snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Make sure you have the pipes, pets, and plants protected.

Be safe and Happy New Year! We will come very close to equaling or even bettering the coldest January 1 high temperature on record here: 5 degrees, recorded back in 1969. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur in 10 to 30 minutes in these conditions.
