  • 5 Turkish civilians killed by cross-border rocket attacks from Syria: Turkish PM

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said 82 rockets had been fired by the Kurdish YPG militia into Turkey over the past 12 days.

Turkish operations, including airstrikes against targets in Afrin, are ongoing.

Arslan also stated that Turkish forces have been mentoring the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and managed to follow a fine line of coordination, even though it is considered hard to conduct such operations with a group which is not a regular army.

On Jan. 20, the Turkish Armed Forces, together with the Free Syrian Army, launched the Operation Olive Branch in Afrin, Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group, confirmed that 68 civilians, including 21 children, have been killed in Afrin in the Turkish operation. A ninth suspect was killed during the operation to round up the group, they said. Ankara considers the People's Protection Units (YPG), part of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, being linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is listed as terrorist organization in Turkey.

Speaking to the American evening news broadcast PBS Newshour, on Thursday, the Turkish envoy to the United States, Serdar Kilic said Washington is making a mistake helping the PYD/PKK Kurdish militants in Syria.
