  • Gymnasts' abuser sentenced a 3rd time

Convicted sexual predator Larry Nassar was sentenced Monday to 40 to 125 years in prison for his crimes in Eaton County, Mich., the third and final punishment the former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics team doctor will receive in criminal court.

Monday an Eaton County judge handed down another life sentence. In addition to this sentencing, Nassar, 54, also received a 40- to 175-year sentence in Ingham County, Michigan, as well as a 60-year sentence in federal court on child pornography charges.

Larissa Boyce, who talked to 6 News when she first became public with her story, said she told former MSU Gymnastics coach Kathie Klages about Nassar's abuse in 1997.

In all, more than 260 women have accused Nassar of sexual assaulting them since Rachael Denhollander broke her story of Nassar's sexual assault to the Indianapolis Star in September of 2016. Nassar was previously sentenced December 7 to 60 years in prison for child pornography.

Nassar issued an apology to his victims in court, but the judge did not seem to be particularly moved by his words, telling him "I am not convinced that you understand what you did was wrong".

According to the Attorney General's office, 265 women and girls have reported abuse at the hands of Nassar.

Nassar, 54, received his third and final sentence after listening to dozens of victims for two days last week, and was nearly attacked by a man whose three daughters said they were molested.

"I've just signed your death warrant", Ingham County Judge Rosemarie Aquilina said as she delivered the sentence.

"I never got a phone call from the police or the FBI", Gina Nichols, the mother of one of Nassar's victims told the Times.

For two days, Nassar listened to the testimonies of at least 48 athletes who said they were molested by him.

"Locking up an individual so they can never harm anyone again and take away their freedom is an appropriate outcome", Cunningham told Nassar. He already is guaranteed to spend life in prison under other sentences.

"Society must be protected from Larry Nassar", she said. His defense lawyer, Shannon Smith, said she expects Nassar to appeal his various sentences but that she isn't planning on defending him in those cases.

Nassar was sentenced Monday to between 40 and 125 years in prison for sexually abusing patients at Twistars, an elite gymnastics club in MI. "... I do not believe there is a likelihood you could be reformed".

The entire board of USA Gymnastics and some of the university leadership have been forced to step down.

The charges in Eaton County stem from sexual assaults committed against three minors between 2009 and 2011 at Twistars Gymastics Club in the area.
