BioWare's Anthem Delayed to 2019, But it Isn't Delayed

Check out the full list of upcoming PC games. "It's not a delay", he says. "People are trying to create a story", he told the Wall Street Journal. So that's a great news for the Battlefield fans.

Speaking to investors - as transcribed by Seeking Alpha - CEO Andrew Wilson said that this not-delay was a case of EA attempting to balance its portfolio.

Fake news has come to the games industry, according to Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen, in response to the early excitement surrounding Bioware's first shared-world shooter, Anthem.

The publisher, however, is quick to note that the delayed launch date for developer BioWare's new project is "not a delay", refuting allegations that trouble is brewing for the ambitious Destiny-like game. Rather, EA doesn't want to launch Anthem and a new Battlefield in the same quarter. Kind of ironic coming from the company that made a decision to release Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 in the same month, just mere weeks before the release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

The move comes during a weird week of news for EA but is pretty significant as the picture of the second half of 2018 becomes a tiny bit clearer.

Though it may not be a "delay" in the most obvious sense of the word, initial reveal plans for Anthem did have the game set to release for the fall of this year.

EA unveiled Anthem at E3 past year, a brand new RPG by BioWare that promised a vast open world, Iron Man-esque exosuits to wear, and certainly looked like it would be arriving as a rival to Activision's Destiny series.

"We are really excited by the way the next Battlefield is shaping up and it probably doesn't make sense to launch Anthem right up next to it".
