  • Eaton County Sheriff's deputies restrain Randall Margraves father of three victims of Larry Nassar Friday Feb. 2 2018 in Eaton County Circuit Court in Charlotte Mich. The incident came during the third and final sentencing hearing for Nassar

Randall Margraves accompanied his daughters as they read statements during a MI sentencing hearing that detailed abuse they suffered at the hands of the former USA Gymnastics coach.

Two of his daughters had given statements to the court.

Margraves asked Judge Janice Cunningham if he could have "five minutes in a locked room with this demon". "Would you give me one minute?" The judge demurred again as some in the courtroom laughed uncomfortably. "I lost control but I regained control later in a holding cell", Margraves told reporter his evening. His daughters' hands flew to their mouths, and one of Nassar's lawyers moved to shield his client.

Nassar, a former US Olympic gymnastics team doctor, was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison a week ago after testimony from almost 160 of his victims.

"One minute!" he demanded repeatedly, his head pinned to the floor.

Some victims fled the room in tears.

Police led him out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

"Sometimes I think my dad hurts more than me", Katie Black said during her victim impact statement. That's why Harbin says it's critical for parents to stay calm, make the child the focus and take the time to get them the help they need.

The judge called for recess. "A punishment isn't appropriate", said Judge Cunningham. Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis turned to the gallery and told families to "use your words", not violence. Parents were also usually the ones physically taking their children to Nassar, and convincing them to go back. "I failed my own daughter".

Nassar and his attorneys were escorted from the courtroom while officers subdued Margraves. He could also face criminal contempt of court charges carrying a penalty of up to one year in jail and up to $1,000 fine.

Margraves explained that he did not know in advance what his daughters were going to say in court and was overcome with emotion. It is unfortunate that this happened to the family and healing is what is needed now.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident and could submit a charge request to the prosecutor's office. An online fundraising page at the website GoFundMe had collected more than $9,000 for Margraves' potential legal fees by 3 pm.

Victims and their relatives had mixed feelings about the commotion. I want that son of a b****. She doubts the sincerity of MSU officials in their apologies since it took so long for them to acknowledge Nassar's abuse. "Let them know that you're not blaming them for anything that happened", she said.

On Jan. 24, Nassar was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison, following an extraordinary hearing in Lansing, Michigan, in which more than 150 Nassar victims delivered emotionally wrenching statements about his actions.
