HTC smartphone president Chialin Chang resigns

  • HTC mobile chief resigns before the unveiling of company's last flagship HTC U12

Publicly, however, Chang's reason for resigning is listed as "personal career plan" on HTC's investor website.

So far, HTC has not named a successor to Chang.

On the other hand, Chang's position with HTC was no longer as relevant as it used to be.

There is some moving and shaking going on at HTC, which is seemingly the result of Google acquiring key members from the company's smartphone team.

What that means is HTC has not exited the smartphone business, at least not completely. His replacement has not yet been announced and Chairwoman and CEO Cher Wang will likely take over his duties until the company can find someone to fill his position. He also previously ran HTC's global sales business - before eventually becoming president of smartphones and connected devices in 2016. Some sources revealed that HTC won't be launching its new smartphone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month. HTC has seen its stock price continue to fall from a high of 1,300 NT ($44.56 USD) on April 29th, 2011 to its current price of 59.90 NT ($2.03 USD). It is expected that HTC will launch HTC U12 sometime in 2018. Some speculate that the HTC U12 might be the company's last flagship, but nothing is confirmed at this point. He was the CFO of HTC in the years 2013-2017. The company lost significant ground to rivals in recent years, however, and despite its efforts to catch up and get back on top, it's still struggling to return to its glory days.
