John Wall Expected To Miss Several Weeks, Including All-Star Game

  • 3:42PlayJohn Wall was named an All Star for the fifth time in his career this season

Unfortunately for Wall, he will miss his fifth All-Star Game next month. Doctor Parker previously performed two surgeries on Wall in May 2016.

The Oklahoma City Thunder's league-high eight game winning streak has been grounded, handed a 102-96 loss by a short-handed Washington Wizards side.

He also was whistled for a technical foul in the second quarter and a flagrant foul in the third, when he went for a block and instead sent an arm to the chin of Marcin Gortat. Those numbers are all down from a season ago.

So just how bad is this for the Wizards?

The Wizards ARE NOT better off without Wall in the lineup.

Wall has missed 11 games so far this season chiefly because of knee soreness.

Neither team shot particularly well: The Wizards wound up making 38.2 percent of their field-goal attempts - they missed 13 consecutive 3-point tries in one stretch - and the Thunder were at 37.5 percent.

It's not as if coach Scott Brooks has an under-the-radar stud to plug into Wall's 34.3 minutes per game. Now, after Cousins suffered an Achilles tear, both former Wildcats are out for a significant amount of time, and Washington's postseason hopes, which seemed so close to crystallizing in last year's playoffs, may be cut off at the knees before the Wizards ever truly emerged. The Wizards have been driven by their All-Star backcourt - John Wall and Bradley Beal - but that pairing hasn't been enough to break through. Wall's absence simply isn't going to help matters.

So while the Wizards face a long road ahead sans Wall, Tuesday night proved they have the foundational pieces necessary to keep churning out wins if they can clamp down on defense and dot the arc with their legion of shooters.

Though the Wizards are now sitting in fifth place in the Easter Conference, they still boast one of the best backcourts in all of the National Basketball Association.

The Feb. 8 trade deadline is looming, so the Wizards could feel enticed to trade for one or two players. They could struggle to remain in the playoff hunt with Wall missing multiple games.
