  • Lauren Cohan The Walking Dead

The actress is now without a contract for season nine (the season eight midseason premiere is Sunday), but Cohan was reportedly "in active negotiations" to extend her deal, and former-showrunner Scott Gimple was "hopeful" something can be worked out.

According to reports, Lauren will play the title role in a new ABC comedy pilot.

The network claims to have made generous offers to re-sign Cohan but other sources have said those offers are "lowball".

It was Deadline which first reported the stall, with the actress supposedly turning down "a modest salary increase in exchange for a long-term contract" as she'd failed to secure a deal on a par with the two male leads, Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus. Cohan's contract was up at the end of TWD's current eighth season, making her available for new series.

Cohen, who brings life to Maggie on The Walking Dead, had yet to sign her contract for season nine when we pulled together the previously mentioned guide.

It had been speculated that Cohan was only taking pilot offers in order to force AMC's hand in the negotiation process, but this news shows that she's more than willing to move on. While there's been no official confirmation about whether or not she's leaving the series, either things aren't looking good for Maggie to appear in Season 9 or this one heck of a negotiating tactic.

Foely stars as Whiskey, while Cohan will take on the role of Frankie, the quick, cunning and completely fearless Central Intelligence Agency operative who finds herself tasked with taking out the same target Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Will Chase (Foley) is assigned to protect.

The pilot itself likely will not interfere with production schedules for The Walking Dead Season Nine which is set to begin in late April or early May.

The dramedy pilot stars Scandal's Scott Foley and follows an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and a CIA agent who are paired up to lead a new intra-agency team.

The show is being written by Dave Hemingson.
