After the controversy and jibes over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's suit monogrammed with his name during a meeting with former US President Barack Obama, it's a payback time for the BJP. The newly appointed Congress President was spotted at the event "Festival of Peace", wearing a jacket which allegedly cost nearly Rs 70,000.

"Huge crowds, excitement and energy here in #Meghalaya, where we launched our campaign today for the assembly elections", he said on Twitter. Instead of singing away our woes, you could have given a report card of your inefficient govt in Meghalaya!

Addressing a programme at St. Edmund's College, Rahul said, "One of the most important things to be done in the Congress is to balance the number of men we put to fight the elections and the number of women". Your indifference mocks us!

Gandhi is here to campaign for his party for the February 27 assembly election in Meghalaya, where the Congress is in power for the last 15 years. He said in Shillong, "You will not see him (the PM) hug a poor person, talk to a poor person or even engage with a poor person".

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav also hit out at Gandhi, saying the Congress left the northeast states poor while their leaders roamed around in costly jackets. She said, "I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the desperation of the BJP".

Chowdhury also took objection to the BJP tweet suggesting that the jacket worn by Gandhi was bought with black money.

While stating that the Congress has done a good job in governance in Meghalaya, Gandhi said the BJP ruled states are suffering from division and it is responsible for assaulting cultures across the country. In 2015, taking potshots at Mr Modi's "expensive" suit, Mr Gandhi had called the government a "suit-boot ki sarkar".
