  • American Heart Association Wants Women To “Go Red” On Friday

No, there isn't a UofL game today, but you may still see a lot of people dressed in red.

National Wear Red Day is meant to help raise awareness of heart disease, in particular among women. One way to raise awareness is through National Wear Red Day.

As the Number one killer of women, claiming the lives of one in three women, cardiovascular diseases force us to consider that a woman we know and love may be affected at any age.

Lifestyle choices such as smoking, poor diet, and excessive alcohol can increase chances of heart disease.

Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. About 80% of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented.

Preventing heart disease starts with knowing your numbers: total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, and body mass index (BMI).

The easiest way to participate is by simply wearing red.

The celebration of "Wear Red Day" continued later on where Unity Point Health St. Lukes also had Mayor Bob Scott for their own reading of the Proclamation.

If you need a little help getting red-y today, check out these samples we've gathered for your street style inspiration. "It's only fitting that our faculty and staff should lead by example, in this case by supporting the American Heart Association's invaluable efforts to tackle a major health concern among women".
