  • Several of BB&T's banking services unavailable due to technical issue

At this time, many of our banking services are still unavailable but you can use your debit, credit & prepaid cards.

The Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based bank posted a statement on its Twitter page saying the problem persisted on Friday, taking out its online banking, mobile banking app and automated teller machine services.

It is unclear what the issue is or how long it will take to fix.

BB&T announced shortly before 1 p.m. Friday that it was making progress on restoring many banking services that had been down since Thursday. "You claim to "hear" our frustrations yet you don't address that which we are frustrated about".

It ended, "As we shared earlier, the outage you've been experiencing was caused by an equipment malfunction in one of our data centers".

The company first started tweeting and posting about outages Thursday afternoon.

The company said they do not believe this issue was related to cybersecurity. "Thank you for your patience as we work diligently to restore your services".

The bank operates more than 2,100 branches spread across 15 states as well as Washington, D.C. It's now ranked as the 15th largest bank in the United States with assets of at least $220 billion (£157.5 billion) as of September 2017.
