Two-time U.S. Champions and reigning World bronze medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani took the bronze medal with their free skate to Coldplay's "Paradise", which is the third program in a trilogy that included last year's "Evolution" free dance and their breakthrough 2015-2016 free dance to "Fix You", also by Coldplay. "It's definitely a run that I'm super proud of".

"There was a lot of pressure, but I'm so happy with how we performed", Virtue said.

"I think the people really feel that the right thing happened tonight, and they can now say goodbye to a career on a positive note".

Virtue, 28, tried to finish her psychology degree at Western University in her hometown of London, Ontario and designed a jewellery line.

They sure made it a memorable one.

After dropping from gold to silver between 2010 and 2014, why risk defeat in 2018?

The pair finished with a world record overall score of 206.07, beating their own personal best in a magical skate to Moulin Rouge with a chemistry so convincing that fans were every bit as glued to their whispers and glances, as their skating itself.

The French pair's efforts fell just short though as Virtue and Moir's routine nudged them less than a point ahead, likely giving their careers another golden goodbye.

Virtue and Moir will continue to skate on the professional circuit, and could return to sports broadcasting, which they did in their two-year hiatus from the sport. I just really wanted to bring it home for Britain. "The competition is about them, not us. So, in whatever order is the same to us", Dubreuil said after the results were announced.

They're the best of all time.

Virtue and Moir worked with another pair of well-known coaches, Igor Shpilband and Marina Zueva, at their facility in MI before a brief retirement.

They have been forced to sit out a full season - or longer.

"If it is the end we are extremely pleased with that". That's the biggest difference.

"We were so close", Chock said.

"We still love what we do".

On a day when the first unified Korean Olympic team took an emotional bow, the Games suffered a fresh doping blow with the suspension of Slovenian ice hockey player Ziga Jeglic.

The stakes going into Pyeongchang were high for both pairs.

"This was an incredible ice-dance event and to know we gave it our very best means everything", she said, adding the two had maintained a belief they could win a medal Tuesday, despite a comparatively low score in the short program.

Papadakis and Cizeron did not compete in the team event, and France finished last. They upset the Canadians at the Grand Prix Final in December, then set the world record with their elegant, mesmerizing performance at last month's European championships.

"A battle for the ages, as usual", Brianne Jenner said after the Canadians stretched their Olympic win streak to 24 games by beating the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation 5-0 to reach the final. The Saturday Night Live player, who follows the sport like most Americans watch the National Football League or NBA, live-tweeted the entire free skate-shaky video included-with an emphasis on apparel, music choice and "dope" moves by the competitors.

Slight differences in technique and precision can make huge differences in scores.

"My worst nightmare at the Olympics. We did it for ourselves and Team USA and everyone who supported us".

When it came time for the free skate - the premier event in ice dancing - there could be no costume slip-ups.

Virtue and Moir completed two breathtaking routines on Tuesday, with a short dance set to Latin, samba and cha-cha music. China and Canada were penalized following the race and that allowed Italy to move up into the silver medal position and the world record-setting Dutch to take an unexpected bronze.

"Hopefully, we win a medal and it will more bragging rights at home".

Virtue and Moir also won gold at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The skaters have said they will retire after Pyeongchang. "How we want to be remembered is by inspiring the next generation. Hopefully ice dancers come to a new level".
