Turkey claims to have killed nearly 1000 terrorists in Afrin last month

An elderly Syrian man carries a child as he walks through the dust following a reported regime air strike in the rebel-held town of Hamouria, in the besieged Eastern Ghouta region on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, on February 6, 2018. A further 26 civilians were killed on Wednesday.

"It's really violent", said Tareq Abdelhaq, an activist.

The US State Department said on Monday it had recorded six suspected chemical attacks in Syria in the past 30 days.

Once granted access, three United Nations convoys could be dispatched each week, reaching more than 700,000 people in besieged and hard-to-reach areas in the next two months, according to the United Nations.

"The people here eat one meal a day, if they can buy that meal".

The Syrian state news agency SANA said three people were killed in the government-controlled Old City in Damascus when rebels launched a series of missiles.

Updated | Turkey has accused Kurdish forces of using chemical weapons against Syrian rebels trying to oust them from a northwestern enclave of control in Syria.

The surge in violence comes on the heels of the death of a Russian jet pilot who was shot down over Idlib province on Saturday.

The fight ended with Filipov's move, according to the ministry: He blew himself up using a hand grenade.

"Others chose to prepare tea and food to distribute to the fronts, and others are volunteering in the hospitals", he says. Since mid-December, about 300,000 more people have been displaced within Idlib itself, meaning hundreds of thousands of civilians are in the way of the intense fighting.

"Eastern Ghouta is a de-escalation area".

Funk also downplayed the significance of the attacks, describing them as just "harassing". "I don't know what the point is", he said.

A statement issued by Farhan Haq, spokesperson for United Nations secretary general, said that the ceasefire would be a way to ease the suffering of millions in Syria.

"The humanitarian situation has dramatically deteriorated, and that's why we are ringing alarm bells".

"We're being told that about 100 have been arrested by the Kurds in Syria", he said.

The Afrin region juts out from Syria's northern Aleppo Province, but it is governed under a semi-autonomous system established by Kurdish factions in 2013.

"Come on, get out", the Turkish leader said, taking direct aim at US military support for Syrian Kurdish paramilitary forces that Ankara claims are directly linked to Kurdish terrorist organizations. Iran is another key supporter of Assad's government.

Turkey views those militants as terrorists linked to the homegrown Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has been fighting for independence for decades.

Turkey says the group poses a threat to its security and has vowed to create a safe zone within Syria to remove it.

"If a Russian plane was downed, revenge should not be on civilians and children", Saleh said.

The images of the aftermath of the latest reported chemical attacks in Syria are disturbing.

Eastern Ghouta, where an estimated 400,000 people are living under a crippling government siege, is included in a de-escalation deal agreed a year ago by rebel ally Turkey and government supporters Iran and Russian Federation. Conditions for civilians have gotten worse and aid access is being restricted as before.
