Wray Says He Won't Discuss Russia Investigation With Trump

  • FBI Director Christopher Wray

USA intelligence leaders warned Congress Tuesday that China poses a major security threat by stealing and buying sensitive American technology.

UCA calls on all Americans, particularly those who know and have personal contact with Chinese students and scholars to speak up; we call on Trump Administration and Congressional leaders to repudiate Senator Rubio's and Director Wray's remarks; we call on concerned Americans to express their views directly to their Members of Congress, to the media, and to the universities where large number of Chinese students are enrolled.

The United States has a sense of insecurity that is "beyond comprehension", according to China's foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang.

"It is our hope and our belief that before the primaries begin, we intend to have an overview of our findings that will be public", Burr said.

Other methods include the use of semi-legitimate, legal transfers and relationships "to gain access to research fields, experts, and key enabling industrial processes that could, over time, erode America's long-term competitive advantages", the statement said.

Wray's warning comes only days after Cotton introduced a bill that would prohibit US government agencies from contracting with Huawei or ZTE. "I like to think that our folks are pretty sturdy".

CFIUS now has few staff and investigative resources and often can not adequately review proposed Chinese and other foreign acquisitions. "His remarks only further insinuates that Chinese and Chinese Americans continue to be treated racially profiled as perpetual foreigners in the intelligence community". "We provided thousands of documents that were very sensitive and lots and lots of briefings, and it's very hard for anybody to distill all that down to three and a half pages".

Wray said in a reply, "The use of non-traditional collectors, especially in the academic setting-whether it's professors, scientists, students-we see in nearly every field office that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has around the country".

He also warned that Chinese spies are spreading throughout the United States as a serious threat and are using "nontraditional collectors, especially in the academic setting - whether its professors, scientists, students", the Washington Examiner reported.

USA intelligence officials advised Americans on Wednesday not to use smartphones made by Chinese companies Huawei or ZTE. "We intend to have an open hearing on election security, and it's the committee's intent to make recommendations that will enhance the likelihood that the security of our election processes are in place".

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) said his research indicated that a rough calculation of the costs Russian Federation incurred through their online influence campaigns in America, the Netherlands and France comes out to less than the cost of one new F-35 airplane. Cornyn is co-sponsoring legislation that would increase the power of CFIUS to check illicit Chinese technology gathering efforts, something he said is "extraordinarily important".

"As it acquires USA firms, and technology, and intellectual property, as well as the know-how to put it to use, the risk is that the Chinese government, which has its tentacles not just in state-owned Chinese companies, but also in so-called private Chinese firms, that it will get its hands on these capabilities and use them against us". Wray was one of several intelligence officials who warned against the use of Chinese brand smartphones.

He said Russia, China, Iran and North Korea posed the greatest global cyber-threats.
