Diamond merchant Nirav Modi, accused in the almost Rs 12,500 crore fraud case at Punjab National Bank (PNB), had hired companies to help advise and manage the initial public offering (IPO) of one of the group companies, according to a Mint report.

They said the more searches were carried out after information surfaced during questioning of some arrested accused and others persons.

A CBI official said the agency on Wednesday night searched a small room in a Mumbai "chawl" from where the agency seized a few LoUs.

The revenue department is reported to have written to 21 banks seeking to attach the assets of Nirav Modi's Firestar Diamond.

Meanwhile, Nirav Modi has refused to cooperate in the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stating that he can not join the probe as he has pending business matters to attend to overseas.

The billionaire jeweller has refused to join the probe citing his business engagements.

Earlier in the day, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) official told IANS: "At least 41 properties with a worth of Rs 1,217.20 crore belonging to Choksi and companies controlled by him have been attached".

Meanwhile, in its further attempt, the CBI and law enforcement agencies are mulling options to contact Interpol and issue a red corner notice against Nirav Modi. The agency again wrote to him to immediately approach the high commission of the country where he is now present and ensure his return as soon as possible.

The Rs 12,600 crore fraud-hit Punjab National Bank on Thursday clarified that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had done risk-based supervision of the bank on an annual basis.

A 170-acre park in Hyderabad's Ranga Reddy district valued at over Rs 500 crore has also been attached, it said.

The CBI filed a second FIR on February 15 for Rs 4,886.72-crore fraud against Choksi's Gitanjali Group.

Modi, who is in the centre of a huge storm, reportedly left the country in January, much before the scam came to light.
