Hundreds of athletes have descended on Pyeongchang, high in the snow-clad mountains of South Korea, for the Winter Paralympics.

Thirty Russian athletes will take part in the Paralympics, which begin Friday, competing in skiing, snowboarding and wheelchair curling under a neutral flag after the IPC banned Russia in 2016. The New Zealand Paralympic Games Team will be chasing a target of two medals across two of the six Para sports.

NORTH and South Korean athletes will march separately at the Winter Paralympics opening ceremony, organisers said today, despite a recent Olympics-driven detente between the neighbours.

The IPC had offered both countries the chance to march together under the same conditions as last month's Olympic Winter Games.

But despite what the IPC describes as a "day of amicable and positive discussions between the two NPCs in the Paralympic Village", the two parties have decided against it.

Audiences everywhere are set to be captivated and inspired as the world's best athletes gather in PyeongChang for the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games and, as rightsholder for Europe*, the EBU will see the Games broadcast free-to-air in over 25 countries.

On Wednesday, Schultz was announced as Team USA's flagbearer for the opening ceremony, and he confessed that while he would be excited to be on the podium, he wants to return home with gold in both his events - the snowboard cross and banked slalom.

"I think having North Korea participate in Pyeongchang 2018 is a great step forward for the Paralympic movement".

Not only did South Korean president Moon Jae-in meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un's younger sister Kim Yo Jong in South Korea, but South Korean diplomats dined with Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang.

The KPC said the two Koreas had a meeting earlier Thursday to discuss the details of the joint parade at the opening ceremony, but failed to reach agreement on whether they should march behind a Korean Unification Flag showing Dokdo - the eastern islets of South Korea that Japan claims as its own territory.

More than 570 athletes will compete in PyeongChang, a slight increase to the Sochi Games.

The athletes from each Koreas entered collectively on the opening of the Pyeongchang Olympics on February 9 underneath the united flag. "It is going to be a wonderful 10 days that we will never forget".
