A nun involved in a legal battle over Katy Perry's bid to buy a Los Angeles convent collapsed and died during a Friday court appearance related to the dispute.

Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, 89, was challenging Perry's attempted purchase of a former Los Angeles convent. "It is now more important than ever to continue this fight and for our cause to prevail", she wrote on a fundraising page asking for donations to help them to keep their convent. "Please archbishop ... Do what is right in your heart".

The nuns were fighting back against the ruling claiming they have documents from the Vatican which proved they were the rightful owners.

"And to Katy Perry, please stop", Holzman pleaded. The nun was appearing in court as part of an ongoing battle with Perry, who offered $14.5 million for a former convent in 2014.

Perry and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles sued Hollister for interfering with their deal and won, with a jury ordering her to pay a total of $3.47 million to the archdiocese and $1.57 million to Perry as compensation for the subsequent court fees, Fox News reported. "It's not doing anyone any good [and it's] hurting a lot of people".

The feud between the nun and the singer started in 2015 when Holzman, as well as the other nuns at the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, sold the estate to Dana Hollister. "We extend our prayers today to the Immaculate Heart of Mary community and to all her friends and loved ones", he continued.

The sisters said they previously spoke with Archbishop Jose Gomez, who agreed they could choose who would purchase the property, but they could not get a hold of him once they made a decision to move forward with Hollister, The Los Angeles Times previously reported.

At the time, Sr Catherine Rose told Eyewitness News, "We have control of our property, it's ours".

Katy Perry is having quite a week. "But, against our will, the Archdiocese removed us to "monetize" our property".

The sisters said that Perry visited and showed them her Jesus tattoo and sang "Oh Happy Day".
