Samsung just launched its latest flagship series, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus at Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC). However, the Galaxy S9 is out in the wild, still not featuring the in-display fingerprint scanner. In addition, the information comes from an unlikely, but reliable, source. However, going with the market trend, Samsung could be looking to improve its face unlock feature to give tough competition to Apple's FaceID enabled iPhones.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 from past year was rumored to ship with an in-display fingerprint reader to save valuable real estate on the front of the device while also providing an easier place to reach the sensor over the position it sits at now. He also claimed that the feature now suffers from problems with screen protectors as well as different environments affecting the success rate of the sensor, which could turn out to be Samsung's reason for removing the technology.

Kuo still believes in the importance of such systems for all-screen smartphone designs to do away with the awkwardness of fingerprint readers at the back of devices.

While Qualcomm and Synaptics have come up with the in-display fingerprint technology, it's still not up to the mark for use in flagship premium smartphones from Samsung. Samsung may include the feature in another phone in the future though, possibly on the next Galaxy S phone at the earliest, according to Kuo.

The feature was once again missing in the Galaxy S9, and it was suggested that the technology will finally launch on the Galaxy Note 9.

An embedded fingerprint scanner that reads your prints through the display has been rumored to come to Samsung's Galaxy phones for awhile. However, with in-display fingerprint scanners reportedly not part of Samsung's plans for the Galaxy Note 9, what else can users do but hope that the feature will finally be included in the Galaxy S10.
