  • Cleveland Cavaliers star Le Bron James returns to the Miami Heat tonight

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (23) drives past Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba walker (15) during the first half at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

During a stoppage in play, James was the given the ball and he received a standing ovation from the crowd at Quicken Loans Arena.

Jordan's streak spanned from March 25, 1986, during his second season in the league, to December 26, 2001, which was 26 games into his first season with the Washington Wizards after spending the previous three years in retirement.

The 33-year-old went into the game against the New Orleans Pelicans this evening tied with Jordan on 866 games for reaching double-digit figures.

The last time James failed to score at least 10 points in a game was January 5, 2007, when he had eight points in 43 minutes on 3-for-13 shooting against the Milwaukee Bucks.

James's effort propelled the Cavs to a bounce-back win after a disappointing defeat to the Heat in Miami on Tuesday - when they produced a season-low 79 points.

James' streak began back on January 6, 2007 when he was just 23 years old and, according to ESPN, the three-time National Basketball Association champion has only fell short of reaching double digits in a game on eight occasions.

He is currently seventh in the NBA's leading scorers of all-time and is now 1,410 behind Jordan on the list.

No active player is within 600 games of James' record, but he wouldn't bite when asked Friday if he thought it was a record that would never been broken. James surpassed Jordan with a dunk in the first quarter. It's been like 11 years that I've been able to accomplish this feat so I've been able to take care of my body, that's one, and I've been around some great teammates and coaches and two organizations that have allowed me to be who I am, so that's two.

"It means a lot for me, and it means more to the youth that kind of needs hope", added James. Among current players, James Harden is second to James with 257 games, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

An avid sports fan, James said all of those streaks are meaningful.
