Pulse Shooter's Wife Found Not Guilty Of Knowing His Plans

  • Pulse shooter planned to hide rifle in baby stroller and attack Disney Springs, says prosecutors

Salman's husband was Omar Mateen, who shot and killed 49 people in the Pulse nightclub in June 2016.

Noor Salman, 31, could have faced up to life in prison had she been convicted of federal charges of obstruction of justice and aiding her husband, Omar Mateen, in providing support to the ISIS terrorist group.

Rio Grande Valley native Frank Escalante was among the 49 killed in the 2016 attack.

Prosecutors alleged that Salman knew about Mateen's plans and did nothing to stop them, while she claimed to have no knowledge of the attack and was mentally and physically abused by him.

They asked several questions, including about the statement Salman made to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Demings had a different take on the verdict, saying, "I am disappointed in the outcome of the trial and know that the victims and/or their families are more disappointed".

Police and investigators work near the area of the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016. The charges against Salman could have led to a life sentence for a guilty verdict. Some people, you know, were watching the trial in hopes of obtaining some answers as to why, you know, Omar Mateen did this and why this happened.

Her lawyers argued that Salman, who was home with the couple's then 3-year-old son at the time of the rampage, has a low IQ, a childish nature and was heavily influenced by her abusive husband.

- Jurors have acquitted a woman accused of aiding her husband's terrorist attack at an Orlando nightclub. She said that she knew her husband was on Jihadist websites and that she anxious that he might be violent.

In one of multiple failed attempts at a mistrial, Salman's attorneys argued the government never told them that part of the statement had been proved false.

Salman's defense, however, said there was no reason for Mateen to involve his wife in his plot - and no proof he had done so.

Prosecutor Sweeney asserted that the case was about what Salman "knew and what she did".

She said her husband only had one gun when he had three. According to Buzzfeed News, Noor Salman was acquitted of assisting in one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern United States history.

"She doesn't go to the mosque, she searches for Hello Kitty on her website", Swift said in closing arguments. "Her only sin is she married a monster". "She knew what he was doing".

"Nothing harmful would come out of her", a friend of Salman's who was identified only as Ms. Ahmed told jurors. Authorities had questioned her for 11 hours.

Defense attorneys filed a motion for dismissal last weekend after prosecutors informed them that the shooter's father was an FBI informant under criminal investigation.

Salman also advised Mateen to lie to his mother when she inquired about his whereabouts on the night of the shooting, prosecutors said.

Offering an especially chilling detail, Ms. Sweeney suggested that Mr. Mateen bought a baby carriage and doll at a Walmart the night before the massacre so that he could hide his AR-15 assault rifle and draw no suspicion as he walked toward what prosecutors believe was his intended target, the Disney Springs shopping and entertainment complex, formerly known as Downtown Disney.
