  • Severe turbulence in Air India flight window panel falls off three injured- Watch

An Air India flight from Amritsar to the national capital experienced turbulence soon after take-off last week, leaving at least three persons with minor injuries and a dislodged inner window panel.

Flight AI 462, which had taken off from Amritsar on Thursday (April 19), encountered severe turbulence for 10 to 15 minutes during its ascent from 8,000 feet to 21,000 feet, the website reported citing sources on Sunday (April 22).

All the 3 passengers injured in the Air India incident chose to continue their onward flights from Delhi after being treated at Medanta hospital in Gurgaon, near the Delhi airport. The blast shattered a window, killing a passenger, in the first US passenger airline fatality since 2009.

In addition to the lady who got injured by the fallen window, another passenger hit his head on the overhead cabin due to the turbulence.

Dramatic footage contained in the aircraft exhibits an air hostess trying to fix the broken window panel in entrance of scared passengers.

Forty-three-year-old mum Jennifer Riordan was pulled back into the plane by other passengers but died from her injuries.

Senior Air India air safety experts looking into the incident said "clear air turbulence appears to the preliminary cause", according to NDTV.

A probe has now been launched by aviation regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB).

The passenger sat next to the window is terrified by the ordeal and is firmly reassured by the flight attendant. So when the turbulence hit, they hit the overhead cabin because of a bump.

A passenger could be seen crying after a window panel beside her dislodged mid-flight. Two more had minor injuries. The outside part of the window, however, was not broken and no de-pressurisation occurred during the flight.

Last week in America a mother of two was killed on a flight from NY to Dallas.
