Trump again presses for tough border laws

  • Trump kicked off Easter with an aggressive tone against immigrants pouring into the U.S

President Trump told recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program last month that he had their best interest in mind - far more so than his Democratic rivals - even after he allowed the program to expire.

The statement from the president comes nearly a month after the program officially expired, although it has been kept on life support through various rulings from federal courts. Getting more risky. "Caravans" coming.

Trump began tweeting over the weekend on immigration from Florida, threatening to pull out of a free trade agreement with Mexico unless it does more to stop people from crossing into the U.S. He claimed they're coming to take advantage of protections granted certain immigrants.

Trump's Twitter screed began with him repeating claims of immigrant "caravans" heading to the USA from Central America while blaming Mexico for allegedly failing to halt them at its border. And he wants certain changes to the USA immigration system that some lawmakers are not comfortable with.

This morning, Trump also casually demanded an end to the filibuster, so the Senate could pass border legislation he wanted. "It can't happen that way anymore". "Some laughed and others said they thought (correctly) they wouldn't qualify", wrote Adolfo Flores, the BuzzFeed reporter traveling with the caravan, on Twitter.

After canceling DACA, Trump said he would like to reach a deal with Congress to protect dreamers from deportation in exchange for funding to build his long-promised wall at the U.S. -Mexico border.

Trump - who has spent his time in Palm Beach hanging out with family, playing golf with friends and watching television - may have tweeted in response to commentary on Fox News, which he is known to view regularly.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., a leading advocate for a DACA deal in the House, tweeted that Trump had "demonstrated his complete ignorance" on immigration policy. "Remember, today is Easter Sunday", tweeted Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a Trump critic who challenged him for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

As for the mass of Central Americans heading for the southern border, these people are fleeing poverty, misery, and oppression in countries that Trump allegedly referred to as "sh*tholes". The deal fell apart when Trump insisted the deal include severe cuts to legal immigration. Nuclear option is a parliamentary procedure that allow the Senate to effectively decide an issue by a simple majority. The Senate, which is controlled by Republicans, considered several immigration proposals in February, but rejected all of them. Trump rescinded the program in October, but courts have ruled that it can remain in place for now.

"A lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of DACA, and we're going to have to really see".

Trump lashed out at Mexico in his second of the three tweets Sunday.

Trump posted his comments after Brandon Judd, the president of the National Border Patrol Council, a labor union representing border agents, talked about reports that a caravan of hundreds of Central Americans was headed toward the U.S.in a bid to secure asylum.

They also want Congress to terminate a 1997 court settlement that requires the government to release children from custody to caretakers while their cases are making their way through immigration court.

"They must stop the big drug and people flows, or I will stop their cash cow, NAFTA".

The United States is now renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Mexico and Canada. Their decision to undertake such a perilous and uncertain journey appears to prove that Trump - if, indeed, he said what was reported - had a pretty good point.
