Adelaide Oval will host the first Test match in the coming summer's cricket schedule but will miss out on worldwide matches over the Australia Day weekend.

A start time for that clash is yet to be confirmed, with Indian officials reportedly reluctant to agree to a day-night Test.

Cricket Australia is trying to convince India to begin their four-match Test series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a day-night game at Adelaide from December 6-10.

Cricket Australia Chief Executive James Sutherland has said the timing of Adelaide's Test was still being discussed.

India have not played a Test under lights though there is speculation that they might play a day-night Test against West Indies later in the year.

" Overall, there are more global matches being played across more locations around the country than in previous years, and we believe this program has something for all cricket fans".

The newly built Perth stadium will also make its debut when India and Australia face-off in second test match of the series.

India's tour will kick off with a three-match Twenty20 global series in November after Australia start the home summer with four limited overs matches against South Africa.

The two-Test tour against Sri Lanka concludes at Manuka Oval in Canberra in a match to be staged from February 1 to 5.

Meg Lanning's side play three T20 fixtures against New Zealand in September and October and then three one-day internationals against the same opponents in February and March.

India's two-month tour opens with three Twenty20s starting on November 21 at the Gabba followed by matches at the MCG and SCG.

The game between Australia and South Africa will be the only T20 of the limited overs series against the Proteas.

The series continues with the Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 and wraps up in the New Year at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Jan. 3-7).

Previously, Cricket Australia Chairman James Sutherland said the governing body would consider expanding the number of franchises in the league.
