In a morning tweet, Trump echoed a growing concern among Republicans: A Blankenship win in Tuesday's primary could jeopardize the party's hopes of beating incumbent Sen.
He's confronted a set of attacks from institution Republicans for his part at the tragedy.
Many on the right are concerned if Blankenship wins the primary, he'll nearly certainly lose the general election to Democratic Sen. The president has felt burned by Republicans once he injected himself into other races simply to watch his preferred applicants autumn limited.
Blankenship said Trump doesn't know him, and blamed the Washington establishment for swaying the president against him.
"The establishment is misinforming him because they do not want me to be in the U.S. Senate and promote the President's agenda", he continued.
President Donald Trump has insisted his campaign did not collude with Russian Federation to help him win the election. In another poll, it's Blankenship 28 percent, Morrisey 27 percent, Jenkins 14 percent.
As for West Virginia, the president's appeal to Republican voters comes at a crucial moment in the race.
"Todd Rokita puts on a MAGA hat, he runs around the state, but on the tough votes...he's against President Trump", GOP Rep. Luke Messer said of his Republican House colleague Rokita in a debate last month. Moore's loss narrowed Republicans' Senate majority to 51-49. West Virginians don't need a candidate who may not even be able to campaign in the state against Joe Manchin.
There are 35 Senate seats up for election this year - nine held by Republicans and 26 held by Democrats, including two for independents who caucus with the party.
Two weeks ago Blankenship was trailing both candidates. Blankenship has recently come under fire for comments he made about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and McConnell's wife Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. Morrisey was in third place with only 19 percent.
McConnell is married to Trump's Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, whose parents immigrated to the U.S.in 1961 and are both USA citizens. A super PAC linked to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has invested heavily in stopping Blankenship, spending over $1.3 million on a mix of television and digital ads ahead of Tuesday's primary.
But Blankenship, who was convicted on misdemeanor charges stemming from a 2010 explosion that killed 29 miners, may in fact be the most Trumplike candidate, accusing the government of covering up its own failures and blaming his conviction on an Obama administration conspiracy. He called Chao's father a "wealthy China person".
While Trump and Morrisey have just started attacking Blankenship, the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., asked voters in a tweet last week to "make a wise decision and reject Blankenship". No more fumbles like Alabama.
