Facebook is launching new dating feature on mobile app

Although the company didn't release many details about the dating service, they did say: "what people do within the dating feature will not be shown to their friends".

Facebook Inc. announced it's rolling out a new dating feature, sending shares in matchmaking app company Match Group Inc. and its owner IAC/InterActiveCorp. plunging.

Zuckerberg, during his keynote speech at Facebook F8, talked about a new privacy feature that will allow users to delete data that the social media network has collected from sites and apps that utilizes its ads and analytics tool. Potential matches will be recommended based on dating preferences, things in common and mutual friends.

Facebook is launching a dating feature. However, those interested in Facebook's dating service won't have to download any extra app on their smartphone, as it will be accessible from within Facebook's main app.

Facebook users have been able reveal on the network whether they are single or in a relationship since it first went live in February 2004.

"Facebook faces challenges in user engagement with the same age group that now dominates online dating (young adults)", the PiperJaffray analysts said.

Were you impressed by these announcements from Facebook or do you expect more from the company?

After the statement of Zuckerberg's shares of Facebook were up 1.1 percent and reached 173,86 of the dollar, which in turn collapses of the action potential competitors of the new service, for example, the Match Group, which owns Tinder.

The degree to which dating apps are reliant on Facebook access came into the spotlight just last month.

Match Group responded by pointing to the continued growth of Tinder. According to Facebook, it will "remove identifying information so a history of the websites and apps" a user has used won't be associated with their account. The CEO also attempted to calm privacy fears that many may have had surrounding Facebook's latest user data scandal.

Yesterday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced, during an F8 Developer Conference, that the social media platform's next big project is... a dating service. It heard evidence in March from Cambridge Analytica whistleblower Christopher Wylie about political campaigning in India and other countries, and the use of personal data on Facebook for such purposes. I would argue that it is: It's targeting people who are willing to, immediately, put their real selves on dating apps.

"You've got the Match.com generation, who started using online dating in the 1990s; then you've got the OK Cupid generation who started using online dating in the noughties, which was less formal and more fun, but still based around you answering thousands of questions", he told the Press Association.
