The Israeli military accused Iranian forces of firing about 20 rockets against its defensive lines in the occupied Golan Heights on Thursday and said that it has "responded to the attack".

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, a military spokesman, said Iran's Al Quds force fired the rockets at several Israeli bases, though he would not say how Israel determined the Iranian involvement. The senior military official added that the Israeli strikes successfully set back the Iranian forces "by many months".

Syrian state press said heaps of Israeli missile strikes hit on a radar channel, forbidding air defense places and also an ammunition dump, underscoring the risks of the broader escalation involving Iran and its own regional allies.

The reports of an Israeli attack in Kisweh late on Tuesday emerged after U.S. President Donald Trump announced he was pulling out of the Iranian nuclear deal. Israel says its occasional strikes in Syria aim to foil that.

Oil jumps to a fresh three and a half year high as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Moscow on Wednesday to discuss military coordination with President Vladimir Putin, a key ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

"Given what is happening in Syria at this very moment, there is a need to ensure the continuation of military coordination between the Russian military and the Israel Defence Forces", Netanyahu told reporters before departing, referring to a hotline created to prevent the countries clashing accidentally.

Israel claimed that the Iranian strikes on its territory caused no injuries or damage.

The United Nations, Western nations and Saudi Arabia say Iran supplies the Houthis with long-range missiles capable of reaching Riyadh.

The IAF was attacked by Syrian aerial defense batteries, which carried out firing despite Israeli warning.

"We are resistance factions and we are ready to target Americans in the region in case America hits Iran".

The military said it "will not allow the Iranian threat to establish itself in Syria".

Yemen's Shiite rebels, the Houthis, have fired a series of missiles into neighboring Saudi Arabia during the three-year-old conflict, most recently on Wednesday, a day after Trump's announcement.

Oil in NY extended gains above $71 a barrel on speculation that "the conflict between Iran and Israel could eventually threaten supply across the Middle East", Takayuki Nogami, chief economist at state-backed Japan Oil, Gas & Metals National Corp., said by phone from Tokyo.

Israel "views this Iranian attack very severely", he told reporters. "They must remember - if it rains here (in Israel), there'll be a flood over there".
