Son-in-law and adviser to the president Jared Kushner regained his security clearance Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.
Mr. Kushner's F.B.I. background checks had dragged on for a year.
Kushner was among more than 30 White House officials whose security clearances were downgraded in February amid criticism about vetting procedures that left staffers working for months with interim clearances.
"With respect to the news about his permanent security clearance, as we stated before, his application was properly submitted, reviewed by career officials, and went through the normal process", Lowell said.

Kushner also reportedly met with special counsel investigators for about seven hours in mid-April. "Having completed all of these processes, he is looking to continue to do the work the President has asked him to do".
Kushner was first interviewed in November, when the focus was mainly on former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty of lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kushner's lawyer said he has been cooperative with all congressional probes and Mueller's office.
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly yanked several senior officials temporary top-level clearances in February
Career officials approved the clearance following the background check, the newspaper reported.
CBS News reported in November that Kushner had been interviewed by the special counsel's office. The interview did not deal with Kushner's finances or his companies, Lowell said.
"As I told Jared days ago, I have full confidence in his ability to continue performing his duties in his foreign policy portfolio including overseeing our Israeli-Palestinian peace effort and serving as an integral part of our relationship with Mexico", Kelly said in a statement.
Kushner's clearance has been contested over the last few months after he was stripped of his credentials in February.
When Kushner first filed his SF-86 form shortly after President Donald Trump's election in 2016, it listed precisely zero contacts with foreign officials.
Whether the restoration of Kushner's clearance is somehow related to his cooperation with Mueller is not immediately clear. Kushner's lawyer has said the lengthy process to obtain a clearance wasn't unusual given Kushner's business and foreign contacts.
