Nestle will pay $7.2 billion in order to globally distribute, market and sell packaged goods from Starbucks. "With Starbucks, Nescafe and Nespresso we bring together three iconic brands in the world of coffee".
While speaking about Nestle and Starbucks deal, an analyst of Bank Vontobel AG said that this partnership will give a tough time to JAB.
According to Nestlé, the Starbucks business - which constitutes the majority of the coffee chain's channel development segment - generated revenue of €1.68bn (US$2bn) in fiscal 2017. A willingness to pay up for exotic beans and specialty drinks means companies can brew up richer profit margins than in mainstream packaged food. Following the regulatory approval, the deal is expected to be closed by the end of 2018.
The move comes as Nestle is trying of offset declining sales in other divisions while Starbucks will gain greater global distribution power and a big injection of cash that it could return to shareholders.
"This historic deal is part of our ongoing efforts to focus and evolve our business to meet changing consumer needs, and we are proud to work alongside a company that is committed to our shared values", Johnson said.
