  • Israel strikes 'dozens' of Iranian targets in Syria

Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa wrote on Twitter Thursday that so long as Iran uses its forces and missiles to try and destabilize the region, "it is the right of any country in the region, including Israel to defend itself by destroying sources of danger". He added, "I hope we have finished with this round and that everybody understood".

Iran wants to set up bases to wage war on Israel from Syria.

Israel says that Iranian Quds Forces fired approximately 20 projectiles, mostly rockets toward its front line in the Golan Heights.

According to the observatory, 15 people were killed by the strikes on May 9, among them eight Iranian fighters.

In response, Israel launched attacks against much of Iran's military infrastructure in Syria. The text of the statement delivered by the representative of the Syrian command, published by the state news Agency SANA.

Map locating reported air strikes, May 10.

Israel struck suspected Iranian targets in Syrian just hours after Trump announced the United States' withdrawal from the nuclear deal. Iran has not commented on the exchange of fire.

Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the Iranian rockets either fell short of their targets - military bases in the Golan - or were intercepted.

Russian Federation said 28 Israeli F-15 and F-16 planes took part in the raids with a total of around 70 missiles fired.

The IDF said it would "not allow the Iranian threat to establish itself in Syria", and that it would hold the Assad regime accountable for the escalation of violence within its borders.

Iran is backing the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in his seven-year civil war against rebel opposition groups, and is also supporting Shiite militia forces in Iraq.

The bombardment led to immediate calls for restraint from Russia, France, Germany and Britain, while the United States put the blame squarely on Iran and stressed Israel's right to "self-defence". Iran also installed air-defense systems that can reach into Israel.

A lot of publications have reported Israel "retaliated" in response to the shelling by Iran.

It said the global reactions that condemned the USA withdrawal from the deal prove the "international isolation" of the United States and its wrong policies which would increase the tension in the region and the world.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks during a news conference with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, Cyprus on May 8, 2018. It's a low grade war right now and Israel reportedly has been striking Iranian targets inside Syria several times in the last few weeks.

Israel and Russian Federation have established a hotline to avoid accidental clashes in the war-torn country. Gen. Ronen Menalis also said that Israel could still do plenty more if it was so inclined. Those rockets either missed their targets or were intercepted by its Iron Dome air defense system, the spokesman said.
