'Roseanne' Wasn't a Big Moneymaker for ABC. Here's Why

One racist tweet cost Roseanne Barr her network sitcom, hundreds of people their jobs, and ABC its top-rated primetime anchor for Tuesday nights.

She has a history of diving into political conspiracy theories on Twitter, and that's how she ended her Memorial Day weekend. It's a meme that she and thousands of her alt-right fans do. "To lose that as her front person finding work for her is a huge and damaging event for her, if she wants more work".

In a since-deleted tweet, Barr wrote that if the Islamist political movement "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby = vj".

"I'm not a racist, I never was & I never will be".

She also said she had been on Ambien, a medication used to treat insomnia, at the time. "I made a mistake I wish I hadn't but...don't defend it, please. ty [thank you]".

That led to the response on Twitter by the drug maker Sanofi. Barr's explanation was deemed laughable. The original image was taken in 2017 at the Women's March, where Goldberg was actually wearing a T-shirt that read, "And you thought I was a nasty woman before?"

Barr at one point blamed her use of sleep aid Ambien for her offensive tweet. "Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste". She also lashed out at co-stars, saying they threw her under the bus.

"I'm anxious about all the people out there who don't have a circle of friends and followers who came to their defense", Jarrett said at the town hall.

Her Twitter account had a manic feel throughout the morning.

"This is a double standard that the president is speaking about", Mrs Sanders concluded, "no one is defending her [Barr's] comments, they're inappropriate".

But then she deleted her retweet of that post.

What's happening to her show?

Jarrett noted that the brouhaha over Barr's tweet came on the same day that 175,000 Starbucks employees were undergoing implicit-bias training that stemmed from an incident in April in which two African-American men were arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks for occupying a table without making a purchase.

The White House on Tuesday suggested that Trump would refrain from commenting on the cancellation of Roseanne's show, as he was purportedly busy preparing for the North Korea summit that may happen next month.

Barr's agent also dropped her and several services pulled "Roseanne" reruns.

- Will there be any measurable backlash from her fans?

Arnold went on to criticize Trump for his past controversial comments.

Tom Werner, her longtime producing partner, told Deadline.com that he supported ABC's decision.
