  • Surgeon general helps patient with medical emergency aboard Delta flight

"They asked if there was a doctor on board to help with a medical emergency", Adams said in a tweet.

Adams tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he was "glad to be able to assist", and said the unidentified patient was doing well.

Surgeon General Jerome Adams, MD, helped a fellow passenger who had a medical emergency during a flight to Jackson, Miss., May 16, CNN reported.

It was not immediately clear what situation Adams was referring to and what happened on the flight.

Adams stated on his website, "I, Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service, VADM Jerome Adams, am emphasizing the importance of the overdose-reversing drug naloxone".

Thursday, Adams said he had the "good fortune" of being part of a team of individuals that responded on the flight, including two nurses. Although Adams was successful in regaining the consciousness of the passenger, he thought that it would be necessary to take the passenger back to the gate and get the patient evaluated at the hospital.
