  • Donald Trump Says ‘Our Ancestors Tamed a Continent' and ‘We Are Not Going to Apologize for America’

Update, 11:10 a.m.: President Donald Trump told graduates at the United States Naval Academy that "we have begun the great rebuilding of the USA military".

"A nation must have pride in its history to have confidence in its future", Trump said Friday.

A lot, ' he told Naval Academy graduates.

"In case you haven't noticed, we have become a lot stronger lately", Trump said during a commencement address.

Trump's address focused heavily on military investment, including $700 billion that Congress approved this year.

His remarks come a day after he cancelled a planned summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un amid aggressive language from that country.

It will be Trump's first time speaking to the academy's graduating class. "We are not going to apologize for America, we are going to stand up for America".

Speaking to more than 1,000 newly commissioned Navy officers and Marines at Annapolis, the president said the USA has regained respect internationally through its military strength.

The president told the graduates that his interest in building up the military is as a means to prevent war but also told the graduates that "victory, winning, attractive words" would be the only option in the event of inevitable conflict.

"We'll have by far the most powerful nuclear force on Earth, and it'll be absolutely in ideal shape and condition", Mr. Trump told the sailors on the ship that day.

President Donald Trump said at a Naval Academy commencement address Friday that "our ancestors tamed a continent", adding that "we are not going to apologize for America". "And if a fight must come there is no other alternative: Victory, winning, handsome words, but that's what it's all about".

"Let me guess. You're still not exhausted of winning".

Trump repeatedly knocked former President Obama as he spoke to the 1,042 graduating midshipmen along with family and guests at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium Friday morning. "What should I do?" the president asked rhetorically, canvassing the audience.
