"The IDF said it coordinated the transfer of eight truckloads of vital medical equipment through the Kerem Shalom crossing due to severe humanitarian conditions in the Hamas-controlled enclave, with hospitals struggling to treat Palestinians wounded in clashes on the Israel-Gaza border on Monday and Tuesday".

Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi called upon the IDF to respond "in full force" to the bullet fire.

Gaza analyst Akram Attallah, pointing to the smaller number of protesters since Monday's deaths, said: "I can see there is a retreat because of the Israeli bloody response...but Friday will represent an indicator to where things are going".

But the organizers of the Hamas-led border marches rejected two of the trucks, which had come from Israel, despite widespread shortages of key supplies.

Palestinian demonstrators gather during a protest against USA embassy move to Jerusalem and ahead of the 70th anniversary of Nakba, at the Israel-Gaza border in the southern Gaza Strip May 14, 2018.

The bloodshed continued to draw world attention as violence abated late Wednesday, on the eve of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

A Palestinian security source in Gaza said the target was a Hamas observation point, but that the Israeli attack resulted in no injuries.

The Palestinian health ministry says a man was moderately wounded by shrapnel, but didn't say whether he was inside a militant site or nearby.

Israel says it is defending its border and accuses Hamas of trying to carry out attacks under the cover of the protests. The campaign, billed as the "Great March of Return", may have raised unrealistic expectations among Gaza residents - a majority of them descendants of refugees uprooted during the Mideast war over Israel's creation - that they would soon return.

But the Hamas official, Salah Bardawil, did not give further details about whether they were members of the group's armed or political wing, or what they were doing at the time they were killed. Israeli military spokesman Lt Col Jonathan Conricus said Hamas had "set the record straight", adding: 'This was no peaceful protest'.

Gaza has been controlled since 2007 by Hamas, an Islamist group that denies Israel's right to exist and has fought three wars with Israel in the past decade.

Guatemala opened an embassy in Jerusalem on Wednesday, two days after the United States inaugurated its new site in the contested city in a move that infuriated Palestinians and drew worldwide condemnation. Israel and Egypt say their de facto blockade of the strip is necessary for security reasons. Paraguay is slated to do the same next week.

"India is deeply concerned with continuing tensions on the border between Gaza strip and Israel where more than 50 Palestinian nationals lost their lives and thousands injured on 14th of May". Those talks have been stalled since 2014.

Palestinians seek East Jerusalem as the capital of a state they want to establish in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Israel considers the entire city its capital, while the Palestinians see east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
