Warriors win Game 6 and Twitter was in awe

  • Warriors may have run a play for Stephen Curry suggested by writer in Game 6

The Rockets jumped out to an early lead against the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals. In fact, that play - which the Warriors ran seven times in Saturday's win alone - has generated far more points in these six games (42) than it did during the entire 82-game regular season that just passed, according to data from Second Spectrum and NBA Advanced Stats. They were hitting three's, and the Golden State Warriors couldn't seem to hit anything.

They've looked the part of the hungry challengers, personified by Chris Paul and P.J. Tucker, while the Warriors more often depict the regal champs, basketball royalty epitomized by Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

Klay Thompson showed up to Game 6 with a ruthless mentality, pacing the Golden State Warriors with 35 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the field and 9-of-14 shooting from behind the arc. He has single-handedly outscored Golden State's reserves 38-16 in the last two games, both of which Houston has won to reverse what had been a 2-1 deficit in the series.

Of course, Golden State rediscovered its form, flying past the Rockets for a 115-86 blowout victory to even the series at 3-3. If the Warriors win Game 6, the Rockets would host Game 7 at 9 p.m. on Monday at the Toyota Center. Bottom line, if there's one thing we know will happen in this game, it's LeBron will be great.

Steve Kerr can say the Warriors aren't anxious down 3-2, and perhaps they're not. What kind of fool am I for writing down a ridiculous title after losing a horrific Game 6? They were committing careless turnovers. He's got good genes, he should thank his mum and dad for that.

Saturday night's game takes place on the Warriors' home court, where they have only lost once in their last 17 playoff games.

Houston had no answer for Thompson while Chris Paul sat out the game with a hamstring injury. In 1962, the Lakers, led by Elgin Baylor and Jerry West, scored 51 points in the fourth quarter of Game 5 of their Western Division Final against the Detroit Pistons. That's just the angle we've taken.

It is unclear whether head coach Steve Kerr plans to play McCaw in Game 6, but this much is certain: Seeing McCaw in uniform on the bench will be a feel-good development for a team that once feared that he was paralyzed. With Andre Iguodala sidelined the past two games with a left lateral leg contusion, Nick Young and Quinn Cook - two players Kerr would probably prefer not to play on such a big stage - have earned meaningful minutes. I was more anxious about the offense coming into the game than the defense.
