The breakdown of that is that Sky Sports Entertainment with Sky Sports Premier League added costs £38 a month, plus a one-off cost of £20.

"Prime Video will be an excellent service on which fans can consume live Premier League football - including for the first time in the United Kingdom a full round of matches", he said.

Amazon (AMZN) has inked a deal to broadcast 20 Premier League soccer matches a year in the United Kingdom starting in 2019, the company announced on Thursday.

Fifteen of BT's extra games will come from two midweek fixture programmes and five from a new split weekend in January which will enable the Premier League to take a mid-winter break for the first time - a move which will delight the Football Association and whoever is managing the England team.

As a result, the deal will see Amazon Prime Video show all 20 Premier League teams.

This isn't the first time Amazon has dipped its toe in broadcasting live sport after having bagged the rights to stream the US Open and ATP World Tour tennis tournaments, as well as select National Football League matches.

Prime membership now costs $12.99 a month, after going up by $2 in January. It will all be at no extra cost. We live in hope. Prime costs the equivalent of $106 per year in Britain.

The big six clubs - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham - managed to get the necessary 14 votes out of the 20 to agree that from 2019/20, any increase in the current worldwide rights package, will be distributed according to league position and not equally distributed between all 20 clubs as it has been up to now.

The broadcasting package acquired by the company is one of the final two smaller ones that was available, albeit one that features fixtures over an important holiday period.

Sky Sports will show 112 fixtures, including prime-time Saturday night matches, while BT has 52 matches that will be shown at Saturday lunchtimes and midweek. Sky Sports remains dominant in the market, but the balance is shifting.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said the league's revenue sharing remained the most equitable in Europe but it was time to amend an agreement dating back to 1992. Amazon has now stepped in and scooped up one of those tranches of rights. "In addition, Prime members will be able to watch weekly highlights of all Premier League matches throughout the season".

BT Sport bought the other to add to the giant package they already purchased, when they and Sky Sports spent £4.5billion between them on 160 games.
