  • E3 2018 Sony Shows Off More of Insomniac's Spider-Man

Sony was content with letting the trailer speak for itself, giving it little in the way of introduction and saying nothing about the game afterward.

After Sony's PlayStation E3 2018 conference concluded, we were able to get hands-on with one of the studio's most anticipated games: Spider-Man.

Set to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on 7 September, Marvel's Spider-Man looks to be a pretty darn good game. But we don't get to see who it is. Ellie has grown up to be quite the coldblooded killer, as she eliminated her enemies with hammers to the face, explosive arrows that turned a woman into a shower of gore, and finally slitting a man's throat when he had no way of fighting back. The trailer also features its own self-contained twist, so look forward to that as you watch.

We'll find out soon enough.

That said, Sony and co. weren't finished showing off the game, in fact they were nowhere near finished.

At a glance, Spider-Man it may feel like developer Insomniac Games is going for Batman-style combat, focused on attacks and quick counters. But while Spider-Man easily takes out the low-level crooks, he's stopped short by a team-up of some of his most formidable foes: Rhino, Vulture, Electro, Mister Negative, Green Goblin, and a mysterious sixth villain. The Last of Us Part II's lengthy demo was exceptional, blending an exquisitely rendered cutscene that showed a moment of beauty in Ellie's life with a desperate, soul destroying fight for survival that takes the first game's brutality and dials it up several notches.

It's always seemed like the game was meant to be Marvel's answer to the Arkham Batman games, and this trailer suggests it will easily live up those lofty aims.

What did you think about the new trailer?

- Square Enix held its presentation on Monday as well, but only showed off two games that hadn't been seen at other press conferences ("The Quiet Man" and "Babylon's Fall"), and gave next to no information about those new games.
