Former FIFA boss Blatter revels in visit to Putin, World Cup

  • One Likely Winner of the FIFA World Cup? Putin

In a terse statement, FIFA said it "had taken note of Mr Blatter's visit to Russia" but had no further comment to make and it was telling that there was no footage or pictures of world football's former frontman at Wednesday's game.

"While we have heard reports of some restaurants and bars in Russian Federation experiencing supply and delivery disruptions, we are fully operational and delivering in full capacity to our partners so the millions of football fans in Russian Federation can continue to enjoy Bud and our other brands responsibly during the World Cup", a company spokesperson told FOX Business. Both men denied any wrongdoing.

England lost out to Russian Federation for the right to host the 2018 tournament. "It's not the first time I'm there", the 82-year-old said.

The 82-year-old said he and Putin exchanged "small talk" and the president reminded him of the telephone conversation they had on 2 December, 2010, when Russian Federation won the right to host the 2018 World Cup, beating, among others, a bid from England. "I take the program they are offering to me, and I am happy to be here", he said. He was elected FIFA president on the eve of the 1998 World Cup in France, and headed football's world governing body for four more tournaments through 2014.

The World Cup kicked off here on Thursday and will continue through July 15, with a total of 64 matches to be played by 32 national football teams at 12 stadiums in the host cities.

"With Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland they will be candidates I am sure".

Blatter, who was suspended in 2015, also said he felt "abandoned" by Federation Internationale de Football Association and that he should have stepped aside earlier.

"It should not be an embarrassment to Federation Internationale de Football Association that I am here", he told Channel 4 News. "I'm still president, but suspended", he told RT.

"I had the impression it was my World Cup ... that time has not stopped since I went to the last one in Brazil", he said, smiling.

"It is emotional to come here, football is still my life, you can not stop that after working for 41 years in football", he said.

I think that every time he comes on the world stage, he is under pressure to perform.
