  • #BJPdumpsPDP: J&K CM Submits Resignation

Political decisions will now be made by the government in New Delhi, though day-to-day life is unlikely to change significantly for the people of Kashmir.

"Our aim was reconciliation and dialogue", she said, adding that politicians had hoped the alliance with Modi's party would "help in bringing out the state from its situation of turmoil".

After over three years of squabbling, the alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and People's Democratic Party (PDP), the two ideologically antithetical parties that formed the government in Jammu and Kashmir finally broke apart.

In reply to a question Koul said, "Normalcy will be restored under governor's rule and steps will be taken to restore the faith of the people in the rule of law and working of the government". It was a far cry from the BJP's ideological mooring in the region tracing to the days of the Praja Parishad, a Jammu-based political organisation that had launched in 1949 a historic four-year-long agitation against J&K prime minister Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah. "We don't have any kind of political interference".

Hours later, state chief minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation. "And it happened because PDP ditched their core constituency by going with the BJP for self interest", he said. "BJP's policy on Kashmir will never change". "Keeping it suspended has encouraged dalals", Omar said. "He will check preparedness of the state unit of the party for the upcoming parliamentary election".

The public perception of the BJP being hard on terrorists, separatists and foreigners was taking a beating in Jammu, as Union home minister Rajnath Singh was seen more than "accommodating" to CM Mehbooba. There is a view in the Congress party that the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state will make it hard for any new alliance to step in at this point.

Now, the BJP president will have a busy schedule in the state with road show, then meting with party leaders, a press conference and finally addressing a gathering of party workers to give a message for the entire state.

"They can do anything now in the absence of a government which otherwise could built pressure on them on certain issues", Feroz Ahmad Bhat, a resident of central Kashmir's Ganderbal said. BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav had cited rising violence and discrimination against the innocent civilians belonging to Jammu as reasons to end the alliance.
