Belgium star Eden Hazard said he will support Egypt at the World Cup for his friend Mohamed Salah following Wednesday's worldwide friendly.

The Egyptian worldwide left the field in tears last month after tangling with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos in the first half of Liverpool's 3-1 defeat.

Medical scans revealed that Salah would be sidelined for three weeks at least, but the player, who has since completed a rehabilitation programme in Spain, is hopeful he will make Egypt's World Cup opener against Uruguay on 16 June. Per AS (h/t ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan), Ramos said the incident had "been blown out of all proportion" and that, having messaged Salah, he had been told everything was fine.

He added: "I hope to play the first game against Uruguay, but that will depend on how I feel when it approaches".

"It's the first time in 28 years that we qualified".

First-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard set Belgium on their way to a 3-0 win against Egypt in a pre-World Cup friendly at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Wednesday.

While Ramos was largely vilified for his role, he defended his actions and said he had sent a message of support to Salah - whose place in the World Cup came under threat from the injury.

Salah beat Harry Kane to the Premier League Golden Boot award after netting 32 times in his debut season at Merseyside.

The Liverpool star, who has been sidelined by a shoulder injury sustained in the Champions League final, gave the promising update in a farewell event hosted by Egypt president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

"Just to help the team to qualify and score goals, but mainly try to help the team do better in matches". Their opening game against Uruguay seemed a stretch too far. "But what I like is that when we make mistakes we've got the togetherness to try to overcome them and I don't think we had that before and that's very pleasing". "I think I've improved with him".

Worryingly for the Panamanians, who face Belgium, England and Tunisia in Group G in their first World Cup finals appearance, they struggled to deal with Norway's physical power, but they did create decent chances in the second half. "But you never know what can happen", Salah added.
