It was a bitter disappointment for the Egyptian side, however, with Liverpool striker Salah unable to prevent three consecutive defeats for his country.

Although he saved one penalty, he couldn't stop Saudi Arabia from winning 2-1 in a game between two teams that had already been eliminated.

Stopper El-Hadary was born in Damietta on January 15, 1973, and now plays his football in Saudi Arabia for the side Al-Taawoun - he made 22 appearances last season and even scored a goal, a penalty.

Nonetheless, Egypt's hordes of supporters roared on Salah whenever he got near the ball and he opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when he raced on to Abdallah Said's long pass and kept his cool to lob Saudi goalkeeper Yasser Al-Mosailem.

There have been suggestions that Salah will quit the Egypt team following the conclusion of the World Cup.

In a post-match interview, Salah, who scored Egypt's only two goals at the World Cup, thanked fans who traveled for the team and supported them in their three matches.

Salman-al-Faraj restored parity for Saudi Arabia dispatching a penalty in the stoppage time of the first half after Ahmed Hegazi was cautioned for tugging the shirt of Fahad Al-Muwallad. The decision was confirmed after a video review.

Almuwallad had earlier missed a chance to equalise when El Hadary saved his penalty. A minute later, he parried away a goal-bound header from Muhannad Asiri.

Ten minutes into the second half, Saudi Arabia almost took the lead as El-Hadary's clearance landed at the feet of Bahbri, who volleyed over the bar from 12-yards out. It was the Asians who prevailed through to record their first ever victory in a World Cup since 1994.

El-Hadary got the start as Egypt and Saudi Arabia played for bragging rights in Group A. With both Russian Federation and Uruguay sitting at six points, Egypt and Saudi Arabia were eliminated after their second games of the tournament.
