It has been said that this will be the longest lunar eclipse in a century lasting one hour and 43 minutes.

The January 31 sighting of a "blue Moon" and a total lunar eclipse occurred in India for the first time after 1982.

The eclipse will be visible from the Eastern hemisphere in particular-that's the half of the planet home to Asia, Australia, New Zealand and much of Europe and Africa.

The conspiracy theorists talking about the doomsday have made these predictions before, especially during the celestial event Blood Moon.

It continues: 'The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the bad day of the Lord come'. The last lunar eclipse, which took place on January 31, lasted for an hour and 17 minutes. As suggested by the event's name, the blood moon will see the Moon cast in a crimson red hue for the duration of the eclipse.

The eclipse will be the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century.

We average at least two lunar eclipses per year and at least four eclipses total.

For those who missed the super blue and red moon earlier this year, they can still catch this summer's lunar activities, starting June 28 with a strawberry moon followed by a total lunar eclipse of a blood moon July 28. "The moon is simply passing into the Earth's shadow". Scientists have said that the moon will appear red or ruddy-brown colour this Blood Moon because of the Rayleigh scattering of sunlight through Earth's atmosphere. The peak of the eclipse will occur at 8:22 p.m. UTC. Including that penumbral time, the eclipse will last for 3 hours and 55 minutes.

This NASA chart by eclipse expert Fred Espenak shows details and visibility projections for this "blood moon" eclipse.

Mars will be making its closest path to Earth since 2003 at a short 35.7 million miles away, easily visible to the naked eye.

Mars close approaches happen about every 26 months, and is the point where Mars and Earth are closest to each other in their orbits around the Sun.
