North Korean media usually are strongly critical of the USA especially around the anniversary date of the beginning of the Korean War.

The rally, which reportedly attracted 100,000 people last year, is typically held every year on July 27, in which North Koreans celebrate the "Victory in the Fatherland Liberation War".

North Korea has reduced anti-U.S. messages over the past several months.

But critics have said the encounter between the two mercurial leaders was more style than substance, producing a document short on details about the key issue of the North's atomic weapons.

"The scope of the agreement and the event is very disappointing because there are at least 50,000 registered separate family members alive in South Korea alone", said Bong Young-shik, a political analyst with the Yonsei University's Institute for North Korean Studies in Seoul.

And on Sunday, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said he is hopeful North Korea would soon return the remains of U.S. service members killed during the Korean War.

Lee also said Monday he has confirmation North Korea is in the process of repatriating the remains of USA troops from the Korean War. Many observances took place in South Korea involving officials including South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The meeting was the culmination of a rapid detente between Pyongyang and Washington and saw Kim commit to working towards denuclearisation, although critics noted the summit agreement was vague and non-binding. But it has made significantly fewer references to its need to have nuclear weapons than it was making past year, when Kim was test-launching long-range missiles at a record pace and tensions with Washington neared the boiling point.

North Korea will continue to ignore Japan unless Tokyo halts hostilities against its neighbor, such as large-scale military drills and efforts to boost military readiness, the isolated nation's state media has said.

North Korea is expected to be among the top items on Mattis' agenda during his talks with senior Chinese officials.

Getting rid of all the anti-American propaganda would be a Herculean task.

North Korea and the United States fought in the 1950-53 Korean War and the remains of thousands of American soldiers are still believed to be buried on the northern side of the peninsula.
