US televangelist appeals for donations for $54 million private jet

  • Jesse Duplantis the Destrehan-based prosperity gospel televangelist is shown in a still image from a video on his ministry's website

"Now people say, 'My Lord, can't you go with this one?'" Duplantis asks in the video, pointing to a framed photo of his current jet, a Falcon 50.

Louisiana televangelist and prosperity preacher Jesse Duplantis' private jet is 12 years old, he says in a video posted last week to his ministry's website.

Jesse Duplantis, the so-called "prosperity preacher" who hosts "This Week With Jesse", has his eyes on a $54 million private jet - and he'd like you (if you're a member of his flock, that is) to pay for it.

"He said, 'I want you to believe in me for a Falcon 7X, ' " Duplantis claimed.

If Jesus was physically on Earth today, "he wouldn't be riding a donkey", the televangelist said. "Think about that for a minute".

He says the plane would give him the ability to "go anywhere in the world" - to preach the world of the lord, of course - without having to make forced stopovers.

Quick to defend their use of private jets, the two televangelists made a joint appearance on Copeland's program to say that it had become a necessity for them to use the luxurious carriers to travel.

His ministry would own it and the aircraft would be available for future leaders of his organization. "It's gonna reach people". "Yes, but I can't go in one stop". But the trouble is, he's "just been burning them up for the Lord Jesus Christ".

On its website Dassault boasts that the Falcon 7X combines "fighter jet technology with an elegant, whisper-quiet executive cabin".

And, in case you're being cynical here, he said this would actually work out to be cheaper because it would mean he would only have to use his own fuel.

Mr Duplantis has copped some heavy criticism on social media for his request, being described variously as an "outrageous charlatan" and "hypocrite". I don't want to learn how to fly it, I'm not interested in that.

"I can't live long enough to travel by vehicle, or by ship, or by train, but I can do it by an airplane", he said.

At least one person eager to get Duplantis into his new ride. It's going to save lives one soul at a time. He tells viewers: "Pray about becoming a partner to it".

"You can't manage that today", Copeland said. "You get in a long tube with a bunch of demons, and it's deadly".
