The seven-time champion came from a break down in the first set to get past Kristina Mladenovic 7-5, 7-6 (2).

Federer won the opening two sets with a single break in each and he seized two in set number three to book his place in the last 32 in style.

Isner will face world No.31 Stefanos Tsitsipas, the first Greek man to first Greek man to reach the fourth round of a grand slam in the 50-year professional era, for a quarterfinal berth.

Nadal won only 64 per cent of points on his first serve and faced 13 break points - including three in the first game of the match - but he saved 11 of them and converted five of his own to wrap up the win in under 2 1/2 hours on Centre Court.

Keys fired 15 aces in the match but also committed 48 unforced errors.

"Honestly, I think today was a massive mishandle of nerves", Keys said.

Later Friday, eight-time champion Roger Federer takes on German comeback specialist Jan-Lennard Struff.

Zverev had trailed two sets to one when his tie with Fritz was halted due to darkness on Thursday.

Cilic last bowed out in the second round in 2013.

The 20-year-old is ranked 68th and has never been to the third round at a grand slam tournament. Ekaterina Makarova came out on top of Lucie Safarova 4-6, 6-4, 6-1; while Camila Girogi survived Katerina Siniakova to advance to the Round of 16.

He will next face Mannarino after the French player held off a fightback from Daniil Medvedev to progress 6-4 6-3 4-6 5-7 6-3.
