An Excessive Heat Warning continues in effect for the entire Chicago area, including Chicago as well as northern IL into northwest in into the overnight hours Saturday night (reference the purple-shaded area on the headlined map) - The Excessive Heat Warning is extended through Sunday for the city of Chicago. The Excessive Heat Warning will continue for Chicago itself, where the cumulative-effects of the oppressive heat will last longer and be greater.

Because of the humidity, the 90s are feeling more like 100 to 105.

New York City is forecast to hit 98 degrees today.

Philadelphia, which hit 92 degrees on Sunday with a heat index of 105, similarly sounded the alarm to its residents and visitors about the unsafe heat.

Heat index levels will likely hover in the 80s again Sunday night.

There will be a slight drop in temperature before rewarming heading into the Fourth of July, the NWS said, showing temperatures between 85 and 89 degrees Monday and 85 and 90 degrees Tuesday before being between 87 and 92 degrees Wednesday.

During a Cool Sweep heat emergency, R-Centers and libraries are opened to serve as cooling centers, hydrants are opened, and hours at Genesee Valley Park Pool and Durand Eastman Beach are extended. It'll quiet down through the overnight and into Sunday morning. We can also expect minor chances for showers and thunderstorms to pop up just about everyday this week.

Strong storms are moving into the Midwest on Sunday. However, it will still be hot and humid, with highs in the middle to upper 80s along the coast, and lower to middle 90s elsewhere. Better chances of rain will come along the cold front late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
