"Fortnite's" popular limited-time mode, Playground, returns to the game on Wednesday, the day after the game's one-year anniversary.

Playground will now come with some new options that let you select teams, enabling practice sessions or impromptu events with other players. Once you've completed all three challenges, you'll earn the Birthday Cake Back Bling for your character.

Fortnite celebrates its birthday with a big patch update – and cake

The freshly released 5.1 patch introduces Fortnite's birthday event which runs until August 7th. Spotted on the game's "Coming Soon" panel, a new P90-style SMG is set to make the leap from Save the World to Battle Royale.

We can't deny that Fortnite has taken over.

Lastly for Battle Royale, players will be able to get hold of the Compact SMG that is a high-capacity, fast firing, up-close-and-personal weapon.

The confirmation comes after a /r/FortniteBR subreddit user suggested that all the Slurp Juice's bonus should go towards healing if you have full shield and vice versa if you have full health. You can read the full list of patch notes for the game on Fortnite's website. As of right now, it is unknown how long the birthday event and playground will be available.

Fans and players of the game have noticed yet another new addition to the daily news panel of Fortnite.
