Rouhani says US pressure to stop Iranian oil may effect regional exports

  • Iran to allow private sector to export oil, beat US sanctions

After ripping up the Iran nuclear deal in May, the Trump Administration is fanning out across the globe to rally support for a return to economy-crippling sanctions against Tehran.

Zolnour, who was a deputy representative of the Supreme Leader to the Revolutionary Guard during the Iran deal negotiations, said he didn't know who the officials were and whether if they were only from the current Iranian administration of President Hassan Rouhani.

In a briefing with reporters, that official said Washington probably would not grant waivers from secondary sanctions against foreign companies that continue to do business with Iran.

After President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal on May 8 and reimposed sanctions on Iran, some Iranian lawmakers responded by burning the American flag and chanting "death to America". It's a high-stakes test of American leadership, the first of its kind for the Trump Administration's Iran strategy. The U.S. has accused Iran of supporting militant groups overseas and of threatening regional stability by developing ballistic missiles.

He added, "I'm afraid this exercise is not going to have any meaningful impact on the situation", as European countries have already made clear they want to stick to the deal, but can not force companies to stay in the Iranian market in the face of new USA sanctions.

Trump walked out of the agreement, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May, and Zonnour took part in the burning of a U.S. flag in the parliament in response.

Hook said that the first part of USA sanctions against Iran will snap back on August 6.

Zolnour's allegations work to add fuel to the fire of the ongoing debate in Washington over Obama's failed dealings with Iran - with much evidence being stacked up against the 44th president that he was too easy on the militant Islamic nation and made far too many concessions to stay on friendly terms.

In 2010, Germany joined the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council-Russia, China, Britain, France and the US -to impose tough new sanctions on Iran's banking and financial sectors and to block its ability to get paid for oil sales. Trade between Iran and Europe virtually halved after sanctions were tightened in 2011. The reason was basic power politics: all five had an interest in trying to reimpose the exclusivity of the nuclear club. "So, even if Iran supplies get disrupted, the supplies to the Indian market will still continue". It's a point that Trump is sure to drive home when he arrives at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit next week in Brussels, and days later in Moscow when he meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said he will respect the nuclear deal with world powers as long as the country's interests are preserved.

"After the JCPOA [nuclear deal] we showed very clearly that whatever promise we make, we stand by", Rouhani said.

Iran has insisted its nuclear program was not for weapons, but on April 30, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented what he said were Iranian documents, obtained in a daring Israeli intelligence operation, that prove Iran had been developing nuclear weapons before the 2015 deal was signed with the United States, China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, Germany, and the European Union.

Meanwhile, a major focus of Trump's campaign is to drive Tehran's economy-sustaining oil exports to zero.

Iran, the third-largest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, exports about 2 million barrels of crude oil per day. "We are prepared to work with countries that are reducing their imports on a case-by-case basis, but as with our other sanctions, we are not looking to grant waivers or licenses".

Saudi Arabia could cover most of the current Iranian oil supplies for International Olympic Committee if India and its refiners were to cut off Tehran crude intake, Singh said, adding that a narrowing spread between Brent Crude and the Dubai oil benchmark gives refiners more options to source reasonably priced crude oil.

After Mr. Trump tweeted his unhappiness with the price of oil as recently as June, the price of oil fell.

It was unclear on Tuesday whether Trump had direct knowledge of the alleged exchange.

"The report comes after the Senate revealed in June the Obama White House secretly gave the Iranian regime access to the USA financial system - a violation of sanctions", Townhall informed.

Hook also said a delegation under his lead will visit Gulf states "in the coming days", as part of global diplomatic efforts.
