Video of the brawl that emerged at New Red Apple Nails on Norstrand Avenue shows women staff beating up a customer with broomsticks, fists, and dustpans.
Activist Jasmine Johnson, who postedvideo and photos of the protest to Facebook, said one of the employees threw acetone, which is used in nail polish remover, at the women.
She also expressed her anger that the salon staff were "hitting [the women] like animals".
A now-viral video shows a nail salon in chaos - a loose flip-flop on the floor, manicure stations pushed roughly to the side.
Huiyue Zheng, 32, was charged with assault and weapon possession, according to police. Both she and the salon's owners agree that she wasn't happy with how the eyebrow wax turned out. Christina Moses, 21, was also arrested on charges of assault causing physical injury, menacing and harassment. The video has so far been viewed more than 720,000 times. Thomas refused medical treatment, according to police. The nail salon is gross and filthy.
In video posted online, you can see employees using broomsticks to beat a woman and chase her out of the store.
It's unclear when the salon will reopen and so far, no additional arrests have been made.
The Facebook and Yelp pages for New Red Apple Nail have been flooded with angry comments.
The protesters marched from the salon to another associated business to demand they both close for good. Many of them rallied outside the shop Monday to protest the violence.
"There is no respect for people in this neighborhood", said 49-year-old Gavin Gibbs, a neighborhood resident, the New York Daily News reported. They left behind a shuttered salon and protesters hoping it stays that way.
"Anytime a store does not respect us, we're going to shut it down".
